This is THE classic teatime favorite quiz show hosted by Bob Holness. The show pits one contestant against a team of two, in a battle to see if there really is "power in numbers". You're playing as "white" and you have to create an unbroken line from the top of the board to the bottom. Meanwhile, the "blue" team will be trying to stop you, whilst crossing the board left to right.
To even things up, the white player has to only get a minimum of four answers correct to win a round, while the blues have to answer at least five. So you're in with a good chance!
Win two rounds out of three, and you'll make it through to the legendary Gold Run, where you'll need to be on your toes to link from left to right against a time limit. Get ready for this as Bob asks you to "put yourself on the Hot Spot!"
So, without further ado, Let's Play Blockbusters!
You may want to familiarise yourself with instructions on how to play, so use the link below to get started. Remember, instructions are only a click away wherever you are in the show.
You're playing as WHITE against BLUE, in three rounds of Blockbusters, aiming to secure a chance at the Gold Run.
Once Bob's introduced the round, you'll see the quiz board, a five by four grid of hexagons displaying 20 letters of the alphabet, one on each hexagon. Whatever letter is flashing will be the first in the word that answers that question.
To start with, our show's computer will pick a random letter. You will gain the chance to pick the next letter, but only if you answer a question correctly. Otherwise the choice goes to the Blues.
Having selected a letter, Bob will ask you a question, and you'll have a short period of thinking time to come up with an answer. Once you buzz in, you'll be shown a list of answers stacked up on the left hand side of the screen. They all start with the same letter, and are arranged alphabetically, so use that to help you find your answer.
Each time you answer a question correctly, the hexagon will turn white. You're aiming to form a chain of white hexagons linking top to bottom, to win the round.
When you get a question wrong, or fail to offer an answer, the Blues will get their chance to answer. If they're right, the hexagon will turn blue. They're aiming to create a chain of blue hexagons from left to right across the board.
If you're confident with your spelling, you can use the keyboard to type out your answer, but you'll need to keep an eye on the screen to check which answer you're highlighting in the process.
You'll get three rounds, and you've got to win at least two of them to earn your Gold Run.
Good luck!
The Gold Run is similar to the first rounds, but with a lot more pressure! You need to form a link from left to right within the time limit to win the Big Points!
All the answers in the Gold Run have two words in them, and you'll see each Hexagon now has two letters instead of one.
Having picked your first question, the choices for the first half of the answer will appear and you'll have to select the answer for the first word. If you're right, the list will go on to the choices for the second half of the answer.
Answer correctly that's one hexagon down! Choose the next hexagon, trying to go from Left to Right!
If you don't know, just click PASS and you can choose a different question. You'll miss out on this hexagon, though.
Remember... to get the Big Scores in Blockbusters, you need to be quick and accurate. There's bonus points for giving quick answers, and even more for making sure you never get a question wrong.
For the highest possible score, try and get the across the board with as few hexagons as possible!
Win or lose, at the end of the game, we'll show you your score for each round, and reveal your final total. Remember, you can come back and be a contender any time you like, so if you don't make it, don't give up but get back in there!
